What an AI website builder does well
You describe your business in two sentences and within minutes you have a homepage, sections, placeholder copy and stock photos arranged with some taste. Wix, Squarespace, Framer, Hostinger and prompt-to-app tools such as Lovable all do a version of this, often for free at first.
For testing an idea, mocking up a structure or getting an event page online by tomorrow, it is a great tool. It also beats the blank page: editing a first draft of copy is easier than writing from scratch.
What the preview doesn't show
The site usually lives inside the platform that generated it. Free plans publish it on a subdomain with the builder's brand, and using your own domain, removing the banner or adding a contact form means a monthly plan you pay for as long as the website exists.
Prompt-to-code tools are different: you get code, but then hosting, updates, security and fixing what breaks are your job. A website that looked done on day one becomes a small software project.
Ranking on Google doesn't come out of the prompt
What makes a page rank isn't generated automatically: copy that answers what your customers actually search for, titles and descriptions written for Google, structured data, speed on a phone and a privacy policy that describes what you really do with visitors' data.
Generic AI copy is easy to spot: "we deliver quality solutions tailored to your needs" could belong to any business. People comparing three sites on a phone skip it in seconds, and Google has no reason to show a page that says what a thousand others say.
What it really costs after three years
The honest comparison isn't free versus paid, it's a monthly fee versus a one-off payment. A builder with your own domain typically runs from $15 to $40 a month in the US: $540 to $1,440 over three years, and if you stop paying the site disappears with your content inside. These are rough figures.
A website built for a fixed price is paid once and, set up properly, only carries the domain renewal each year.
When to use AI and when to have it built
If you need something by tomorrow and don't expect customers from Google, such as a wedding, a one-off event or a test, an AI builder is the sensible choice. If the website has to bring in work for years, it should be yours from day one: domain in your name, no monthly fees and built to be found.
That is the kind we build: original design, no cloned templates, price and delivery date fixed in writing. Everything included is in our website packs.
